CCTV

I have heard all too many policyholders over the years complain that their insurers settle claims way too easily. They feel that no attempt is made by insurers to defend what they often refer to as bogus claims.

Let me tell you that claims will be strenuously defended if insurers have been provided with evidence of genuine value. So what evidence can there be? Well I'm sure that you will agree that if an incident happens in your shop then they must rely on you to provide the necessary evidence.

Good quality CCTV footage covering the alleged incident is top of the list. Ask yourself what areas do your cameras cover and what areas don't they cover. Do you have a camera covering the entrance of your shop where the highest number of slips and trips occur? I understand that you have invested in highly expensive equipment and that it is intended to assist you in efforts to avoid theft but it must also be used to provide you with evidence of accidents or allegations of such incidents.

I have identified the following areas as being vulnerable:

1. Entrance: Steps, Dog-Eared Mats, Wet days

2. Checkouts: Baskets left on floor by customers, Boxes Etc.

3. Milk fridges: Often slip hazards just after filling

Witness statements from yourself and any staff who observed anything to do with an alleged incident are also critical.

Always remember - call us to discuss any/every incident. We will advise and guide you.
