SLIPS, TRIPS & FALLS

Did you know that approximately one third of your insurance premium goes to pay for your Public Liability Insurance cover?

The highest claims cost under Shop Insurance is by a long way slips and trips.

The perception of "it's a try on!" is widespread but unfortunately frequently untrue. In the vast majority of cases they are accidents that could have been avoided.

We want to draw your attention to one simple mistake that has on a number of occasions been the cause of pa1ticularly bad injuries. Carelessly discarded newspaper/magazine bailing ties/strings have been the cause of trips resulting in payments averaging €54,550.

The average slip/trip claim settlement in shops is €23,237 which is bad enough but you can see that this is less than half the average paid for this type of injury/claim.

It’s incredibly simple! Take a moment to safely cut the binders and then bin them to prevent the accident.

I have also drafted a Shop Hazard list for your records. You can edit it to suit your own times and plans and this will help you to have some defence in the event of a slip or trip.

Another thought struck me that will definitely be a real benefit. Draft a simple but prominent sign at your shop entrance saying "IN THE INTEREST OF YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY, PLEASE WIPE YOUR FEET THOROUGHLY ON THE MAT PROVIDED”

Check that your mat is suitable for its purpose and when erecting your sign, avoid it creating a trip hazard.

Once again folks, we are asking you to engage as a group and participate in a combined effort to take actions that will help to avoid accidents, thereby preventing some claims thereby making it difficult for your insurers to justify premium increases!
